If you’re just starting out with your timepiece collection, a simple web search for the best watch brands might leave you feeling overwhelmed. With so many different brands and so much information available, it can be difficult to sort through it all. It’s easy to get even more perplexed than you were when you first started. One may come to believe that this isn’t something they should be doing in the first place.

Whether or not the terms ‘SIHH’ or ‘Baselworld’ signify anything to anybody outside of the watch business – and whether or not publications should base their watch specials on such events – will no longer be a problem for editorial departments.

As always, it’s uncommon for a watch company to fully revamp a collection or even develop something entirely new; evolution rather than revolution is the goal here. While we journalists crave anything that raises the Richter scale, most watchmakers are artists when it comes to perfecting their craft.

1:Seiko

Seiko, a Japanese icon founded in 1881, ushered in the quartz revolution, which permanently altered the watch industry as we know it. Even the cheapest Seiko models are quite well-made, and they are usually superior to rival items from other manufacturers in the same price range. There aren’t many reputable watch companies that will sell you an automatic watch for less than $100. The Seiko 5 Black Dial is one of those hard-to-get watches.

2:Seiko Conceptual Chronograph

A chronograph does not have to be expensive, as Seiko has proved with its extensive variety of chronographs that cost less than $150 in certain circumstances. One such example is the Conceptual Chronograph. The quartz chronograph movement, set in a 43.3mm stainless steel case, can measure up to 60 minutes of elapsed time in 1/5-second increments.

3:Bremont RFU 150

Bremont, a brand as British as a line of Beefeaters discussing the weather, became the official timing partner of both England Rugby and its spiritual home, Twickenham Stadium, last year. It seems to reason, then, that the Henley-on-Thames-based watchmaker would commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Rugby Football Union’s formation with a red-white-and-blue chronometer etched with a rose on its case-back. The 43mm Bremont RFU 150 has a 24h GMT hand and a bezel with red accents that represent half-time and full-time. Crouch, touch, stop and engage a crown in the peculiar position of number ten.

4:TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph

Long-time BBFs, TAG Heuer and Porsche, made things official this year by entering into what they are calling a ‘holistic and long-term collaboration’.The first fruit of this old-new connection is a Porsche-themed Carrera, which is apt considering the brand’s historic race roots. Porsche’s emblem has been etched onto the watch’s oscillating weight, which has been reshaped to resemble a Porsche steering wheel and is visible through an exhibition case-back, in addition to appearing on the ceramic black bezel of a new 44mm chronograph.

5:A Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Perpetual

It’s difficult to overstate the importance of the Lange 1 to the Saxon kings of watchmaking but suffice it to say, without this 20th-century icon there would be no modern-day A Lange & Söhne. The pioneering firm, founded in the 1800s by Ferdinand Adolph Lange, was all but destroyed following the adventures of two World Wars and subsequently being nationalized by the Soviet Union, but it was recovered from oblivion by Lange’s great-grandson Walter and watch industry veteran, Günter Blümlein.

6:Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

The watch industry is so nerdy that little features, like the very gorgeous sunburst-green dial on this new Royal Oak “Jumbo,” may soon become topics of controversy among serious collectors. What’s the big deal? This is a Royal Oak sans one of its primary distinguishing features: the checked tapisserie dial we’re used to seeing. But every now and then, it’s good to see a new interpretation of the original Royal Oak format, pushing the boundaries of this icon’s pattern.

7:Rolex Explorer

Although Rolex did not originate the tool watch, the watchmaker did set the ground for most of its modern-day appeal. When you think of these highly specialized watches, you might think of the Daytona or the Submariner, but it was the Explorer that launched Rolex’s professional-grade watch series. To celebrate Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reaching the summit of Mount Everest in 1953 (using Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches on the expedition), the watchmaker created the Rolex Explorer in the same year. Suffice it to say, it became an instant icon.

8:Panerai Luminor

The Panerai Luminor is a classic watch that mixes Swiss and Italian design elements together. This Milan-based watchmaker produces all of its watches in Switzerland. The Panerai Luminor 1950 collection features a minimalist watch face and has automatic movement. This timepiece is made completely in-house.

9:Rolex Submariner

A list of the finest watches for men would be incomplete without discussing the Rolex Submariner. This wristwatch has just been redesigned, with a 41 mm case and a redesigned strap. When diving underwater in the dark, a Chromalight display lights the hands. The black dial, as well as the rest of the wristwatch, provide a striking contrast. It can be worn down to depths of 300 meters, which is a remarkable achievement. The Rolex Submariner is a watch that cannot be beaten.

10:Rolex Day-Date II

Today, the watch is available in a variety of finishes, including 18k Yellow Gold. Because the clock is linked with the powerful, it was dubbed the President bracelet. The traditional wristwatch features a 40mm case and a fluted gold bezel. It also has a champagne-colored dial with diamond indexes. The watch is powered by a 3255 caliber self-winding movement. Because of its high degree of refinement and comfort, many powerful men regard this stunning wristwatch to be their go-to Rolex.

Conclusion

Rolex watches are available in a variety of forms, sizes, and prices to suit practically any budget. Today, the Oyster Perpetual is the least costly watch available for £5,000 or less. When purchasing the famous watch, keep in mind that adequate care and maintenance are essential to ensuring its longevity. Maintain its natural and cosmetic attractiveness by cleaning it often, and keep in mind that accumulated filth, wear, and tear.
