Lavasoft was known as a software developing company earlier, and now it is known as Adware. The company was earlier known for creating reliable spyware and Malware detection software. Although it is popular, it is hard to ignore the controversies associated with it.
What Is Lavasoft Web Companion?
Lavasoft Web Companion is a reliable software created by the company. It can be installed on the system automatically and has several other applications that come along with it too. According to the creators, it keeps away harmful malware and spyware. Despite their claim, there are several controversies associated with it as well. We would let you know about these possible controversies so when you start using them you are aware of them.
The Questionable Owners
Back in January 2011, Solaria Fund acquired Lavasoft. The reports appearing afterward revealed that the Fund comprises the people who were selling “Free/Open–Source” software by making fake promises regarding “Premium Support“. It was also commented that they were selling the free version of Lavasoft’s Security Program before they actually got the company.

Unreliable Installation Patterns
While you were looking for the application there is a possibility that the program already exists on your device. The “Web Companion” program can get installed on your device without any prior notification. This can possibly happen if you are installing any of the accompanying software. After the company had to face the challenge they replied that the installation has no legal issues and there are possibly no side effects.
The company further stated that this companion can work as a shield that can protect the system against any spyware. Despite this claim, it is hard to say that it is different from spyware. This program has limited advantages regarding the fitness of the system. You can experience the change in the browser settings without actually letting you know.
An independent Software research and development institute tried exploring a unique Security feature regarding the Web Companion back in 2015. After the research, they concluded that this security feature was based on Komodia’s Public SDKs. This company owes the responsibility of the “Superfish” Security incident related to Lenovo’s devices. Thus, the devices become more prone to Cyber Attacks and this reduces the security-related integrity too.
If you think the problem is related to your device then it is better to use repair software that can scan the repositories. In the aftermath, it becomes possible to get rid of the corrupt and missing files. This would resolve the issue to a considerable extent, as all this is due to the corrupt system.
Should I disable It?
If you find that the Web Companion is there on the system, it is better to disable this software by Lavasoft in your first spare time. The software has no good associated with its name. The reputation is all hidden with the black clouds. Even if you have not installed it, it will be added to your system without your prior permission. Once it is there, you can find it changing the browser settings. If it stays for a long time, it can act as a spy and keep an eye on your online activity. Thus it can take away your essential files and information.
